FAQ

How it works

What is ScrollStep?

An app that lets you scroll as much as you like, as long as you keep moving. Walk while you scroll and your apps stay open. Sit and scroll too long and they pause until you take a few steps.

Does ScrollStep block my apps?

Not the way app blockers do. Nothing is off-limits and there's no daily time cap. Your apps only pause after about 2½ minutes of sitting and scrolling. A short walk brings them back, usually without even opening ScrollStep.

What exactly happens when I sit and scroll?
  • 1:00: a nudge.
  • 2:00: a heads-up.
  • 2:30: your picked apps pause.

Walk the number of steps you chose, 100 by default, and they reopen on their own.

Is the time per app or shared?

Shared across all your picked apps. Switching from Instagram to TikTok doesn't reset the clock.

What's a Free Pass?

Hit your daily step goal and nothing pauses for the rest of the day.

What if I really need an app right now?

You get 20 emergency minutes a day. Start them from the pause screen or the app, and your apps open straight away. The clock only runs while you're sitting, and minutes you don't use stay for later that day.

When does my day reset?

At midnight in your phone's time zone.

Steps and accuracy

Where do my steps come from?

Your iPhone's motion sensor. If you connect Apple Health, ScrollStep also counts your Apple Watch steps without double-counting.

Do steps I walked before a pause count?

Steps you take after a pause starts are what get you back in. All your steps count toward your daily goal and Free Pass.

How are calories, distance and the burgers worked out?

They're estimates from your steps, adjusted for your weight if you add it. The food equivalents use typical fast-food portions. You can switch to distance or time in Settings → Equivalents.

My steps look wrong or aren't updating.

Make sure Motion & Fitness is on (iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness → ScrollStep). If you use an Apple Watch, connect Apple Health in ScrollStep's Settings.

Privacy

Can ScrollStep see what I do in my apps?

No. Apple's Screen Time framework gives ScrollStep only anonymous app tokens and usage totals, shown inside a sandboxed view. We never see your messages, what you type, what you browse, or which apps you use. That data never leaves your phone.

Do you sell my data or show ads?

No, and no. See the Privacy Policy.

Do I need an account?

No. Signing in with Apple or Google is optional. It backs up your progress and turns on invites.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Account → Delete account removes everything we store. Deleting the app removes everything on your phone.

Pricing

How much does ScrollStep cost?

ScrollStep Pro is monthly or yearly, with a free trial. You'll see the exact price for your country in the app before you pay.

How do I cancel?

iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → ScrollStep → Cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or period ends to avoid being charged. You keep access until the end of the period.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases go through Apple, so refunds are requested at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do invites work?

Share your code from the Profile tab. Your friend gets a longer free trial, and you get 7 free days when they start.

Troubleshooting

My apps paused but didn't reopen after I walked.

Open ScrollStep and the pause screen will count your steps live. Check that Motion & Fitness is on. If ScrollStep can't read your steps at all, it reopens your apps rather than leave you stuck.

I'm not getting nudges.

Turn on notifications for ScrollStep in iOS Settings → Notifications, and check that a Focus mode isn't silencing them.

Does ScrollStep drain my battery?

No. It uses Apple's built-in Screen Time and motion frameworks, which are designed to run efficiently in the background.

Is it safe to walk and scroll?

Walk where it's safe, and look up whenever you need to: at crossings, on stairs, in traffic. ScrollStep is about moving more, not paying less attention.

I still need help.
